Two Honu

Two Honu

Key: R20110903-165227-master

Another view of the two honu or Hawaiian green sea turtles. They like to haul themselves onto the shore and bask for a while, before returning to the water. Long hunted, they are now protected and have made a decent comeback in Hawaii. This particular beach is famous for them.

We camped here last night and I was inspired by the light the day before. High, bright overcast light–very nice for most image making. Yet photographing sky, sea and shore on a black sand beach is challenging. I had to play with some funky looking curves on these images to get the tones where I wanted them and I was still not completely happy with the results.
