  1. What is it about lone gnarled trees against a harsh or wide open environment. There’s a strong inner appeal to them — something about strength and survival.

    • I know what you mean, Earl. There is a survival spirit that stirs some kind of positive feelings in us.

      They are kind of cliche images, and I’ve made a ton of them, but I can’t help myself almost with these. There are a lot of them to be made in the lava fields of Volcanoes National Park, just up the road from my house.
