Jasper, R.I.P.
Born 2005; Died 2009
Sadly, we had to bury another cat yesterday. He was only 4 years old. In this picture, taken only a week ago, he looks pretty healthy, although he was a bit skinny. In one week’s time he wasted away to a terrible state. We still have no idea what went wrong, other than the vet said he might have been poisoned.
This is the second cat we’ve lost in 6 months. Our other one died of old age, thankfully, at 17 years. He passed away last December.
What can I say about Jasper? He was a really easygoing cat, very curious, and sociable. All the neighbors knew him because he made the rounds and made lots of friends that way. He was an excellent hunter and kept our house and yard rat and mouse free, not to mention taking out quite a few lizards and birds. He was more of an outdoor cat than an indoor–we had a little cat door and he’d pop out whenever he wanted some air, which was often. We had to set the cat door to only open only outwards, otherwise he’d bring in his birds and rats and what not to play with. He only came in to sleep for a few hours now and then, or to get some extra food. Never ever even used a litter box, just did all of his business outdoors. A very easy cat to take care of. Despite being an outdoor cat, he was very close to his family, he loved to sleep in the top bunk of the kids room with my son.
Shalom, buddy. We’ll miss you.
Eric, I’m sorry to hear about your loss of Jasper. Pet’s have a way of becoming close members of the family and their lost can be almost as hard felt. It’s especially hard since this is the second lost in a period of months. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Thanks, Earl.
