This was a positively strange experience that I had last weekend. While on a camping trip with our local camera club we were shooting at sunrise in the mountains and this interesting "fogbow" appeared, stretching from the crater on the left over past the pu’u (hill) on the right.
It dissipated in about 20 minutes.
Cool things these fogbows. I too have been fortunate enough to see and photograph one.
Hey Steve,
What a great fogbow photograph. I think you caught the phenomenon better than I did. I’d never seen one before.
I was just making up the term “fogbow”. But now that I’ve seen your post, I looked it up on Wikipedia. Behold: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fogbow
Thanks Eric. I’ve also just seen this once and didn’t know they were called fogbows either until a woman in our photo club saw the photo and raved about how lucky I was as they’re quite rare.
