SoFoBoMo Update
I plowed into the editing tonight. I had a productive night and filled about half the book. Unfortunately, I still have a lot of photos to take. At least, judging from my usual hit/miss ratio. And I’ve got lots of busy days ahead with little time for shooting.
But, I will, absolutely, finish this book by my 30-day deadline of May 5. I can’t afford not to.
I’m really feeling comfortable with Scribus now, and have had absolutely no more problems with it after that first initial crash a couple of weeks ago. It’s quite fast, and very intuitive compared to other desktop publishing software I’ve used previously. The PDF generation controls are straightforward, and there is no wondering about what the document thinks the resolution of your images are, or what color space they are in, or whether your fonts are embedded or not. Nice. The master pages and styles are easy to work with and behave like you would expect them to. And it’s open source, free and not made by a greedy multinational corporation–what more could you ask for?
