Fortunately my GX-100 camera battery and charger came in the mail today, and I am back in business for my original plan for SoFoBoMo. A little late start, so I’ve got to get out and get shooting this weekend.

I mentioned in my review of the camera just a few days ago that 2 AAA batteries can be used in a pinch in this camera, and isn’t that wonderful. Well, I got about 15 shots before the batteries gave out. Brand new alkaline AAAs!

It’s just amazing really how far we’ve come with rechargeable battery technology. These Li-ion batteries really are the cat’s meow.

Getting re-acquainted with the cam, and liking it already. Wish the AF were faster, but I love the lens on this thing.

  1. One thing to keep in mind is that many (but not all) digital cameras have very high peak current draw. Alkaline batteries are not good at high current demand, and so the ‘exhaust’ very quickly in those cameras. But the batteries lose the ability to sustain high current long before they’re really ‘dead’. Don’t throw those AAAs into the trash – stick them in some low current device (like a portable radio) and they’ll do fine.

  2. Interesting. I haven’t tried NiMH rechargeable AAAs in it yet. That would be an interesting experiment, as I would assume they could support the higher draw.
