I had an enjoyable day today hanging out with Doug Beasley. Doug was in town to judge the Hawaii Photo Expo and graciously offered to do a small workshop for HPC members.
Doug had some inspiring work to show, shared some great advice, and gave us a little shooting assignment in getting to the “zen” of a subject. The location was Liliuokalani Park (a familiar local park). Pretty. Pretty boring. At least I would have normally thought that… but after the morning session, something clicked for me (or maybe I was just in the right mood), but I really did see a familiar place with new eyes, and came away with some nice images.
I haven’t really been a photo workshop kinda guy (been to a couple and enjoyed them, but..). I have to say this got me thinking. Anyway, I can recommend spending some time at a Beasley workshop.
